Abdul Qadeer Khan (Urdu: ڈاکٹر عبد القدیر خان, born: April 1, 1936), D. Eng, Sc.D, HI, NI (twice), DAP, better known as Dr. AQ Khan is a Pakistani nuclear scientist and metallurgical engineer who served as head of the Kahuta Research Laboratories (KRL) in 1976 2001 . Abdul Qadeer Khan is regarded as the founder of the UME gas centrifuge-based uranium enrichment program to develop Pakistan's nuclear deterrent.

After years of house arrest, the Islamabad High Court (IHC), February 6, 2009 said Abdul Qadeer Khan to be a free citizen of Pakistan, allowing free movement within the country. The sentence was handed down by Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam.In September 2009, expressing concern at the decision of Lahore High Court to stop all security restrictions on Khan, the United States have warned that Khan is still a "serious proliferation risk. "
