Ricky Dene Gervais (English pronunciation: / dʒərveɪz /, born June 25, 1961) is an English comedian, actor, director, radio host, producer, musician and writer.

Gervais found fame with his public television series of the Office and Extras to the next round, the two that he co-wrote and co-directed with his friend and frequent collaborator Stephen Merchant. Besides writing and directing the shows, Gervais also played the lead role of David Brent in The Office and Extras Andy Millman. Gervais has also starred in a number of Hollywood movies, taking a leading role in Ghost Town and The Invention of Lying. He played four sell-out stand-up comedy tours, wrote the best-selling book series and played Flanimals Karl Pilkington and Stephen Merchant in the most downloaded podcast in the world in March 2009, Ricky Gervais Show.

He has won numerous awards and honors, including seven BAFTA Awards, five British Comedy Awards, two Emmys, three Golden Globe and the Rose d'Or 2006 and the Screen Actors Guild Award. In 2007, 11 voted the greatest comedy on Channel 4's 100 Greatest Stand-Up, and again updated in 2010, a list of the third largest comic. In 2010 he was named to the list of Time 100 most influential people in the world. In 2010, Gervais became the first British guest at the Golden Globe Awards for 14 years, and did so again in 2011.
